My almost-three-years-old daughter loves to play role games. She may propose: “Let’s play Bob the Builder! I am Dizzy and you are … Muck!” Then we fix a barn in the Pickles’ farm until she gets bored. Instead of changing to another play she says: “Muck, would you like to be Maisy… no, you’re Tallulah and I am Maisy”. Fascinated (no doubt!) of the recursion she asks even before Maisy and Tallulah do anything else: “Let’s play MOOMIN!!! I am Moomin and you are Snufkin! Is that ok, Tallulah?”. Trying to remember the nested roles, we go fishing and discuss of the wonderful meal Moominmamma is to prepare. Suddenly she decides: “Tallulah, let’s do something else!”. I misunderstand the situation and ask my daughter if it is now time to read some books. “Daddy, you are supposed to be Tallulah!” she laments. “Now I want to be Snufkin. Who are you, Tallulah? Moomin?”
Choosing username
•October 25, 2007 • 1 CommentFirst time blogging, a choice to make: username. Strange feeling. Antigone and Recursion already in use, what a disappointment! Third try paid off. Only afterwords I googled the fresh username to find some heavy metal lovers. No wonder given the meaning of the word.
The urge to find a suitable username turned out to be unexpectedly strong. The confusing fact that Recursion was not free for me to take took some effort to accept. The reaction is revealing the limited intellectual abilities my ego possesses. For sure, any common English word not to be found among 1.5+ million usernames in wordpress is a rarity likely to extinct in near future. However, I grew liking the propositions I came up with while typing the password.
Then I tried lugubre, for me an Italian word belonging to the mass of musical terms. Years ago in the music school I had as an assignment to create a Lugubre. The result was my first publicly performed piece of music I was proud of, a short 9/8 rattle to a snare drum and two bassoons.
This time only, there is no obligation to follow the name.
